Hi Everyone!
My author pal and critique partner Georgia Lyn Hunter recently tagged me in the Writing Process Blog Hop. Georgia Lyn writes paranormal romance featuring spunky heroines and tortured alpha badasses. In other words: hot stuff! Visit her Web site to read some excerpts from her Fallen Guardian series.

I’m currently editing two stories in two different series:
1. The second full-length novel of The Tranquilli Bloodline Series
(Teaser #1: Dixon returns to torment Carina)
2. The second novel in my, as of yet untitled Fae series.
In development:
1. A novella for the Tranquilli Bloodline series, featuring Carina’s badass, dominatrix bodyguard, Stella.
2. Werewolf paranormal romance (spin-off from Tranquilli Bloodline series.
(Teaser #2: yep, there are hot, Scottish werewolves in Carina’s second novel)
3. Faery story #3
I think everyone’s work differs. Our voices are as unique as our fingerprints!
My characters harass me until I sit my butt down in my chair and write their stories. ☺

Characters come to me first. See the aforementioned mental harassment, LOL. Eventually, I sit down and plan their story. You’ve probably heard the terms plotter and pantser. I’m somewhere in the middle.
Step 1: Plan
I develop an outline/rough synopsis using Michael Hauge’s Six Stage Plot Structure, create info sheets for my characters, build my backstory/world bible, etc.
I know. That sounds like a plotter, but…I write the outline and synopsis items in fairly broad strokes, knowing that my characters may very well stray off the planned course. And more power to them — some of the best ideas happen when I let my characters play like that. It’s an organic process, after all.
Step 2: Write
I stuff Editor Brain in a cage and let Artist Brain bust out a first draft.
Step 3: Edit/Revise
First draft in hand, Editor Brain is released from her prison. She gives me a vengeful glare and sets to work fine-tuning.
Step 4: Critique/Beta
After some editing, I trade critiques with one (or more) of my critique partners. After critique passes, more edits and revisions, the manuscript then goes to beta readers for feedback.
Step 5: Final Draft!
That’s it for me, dear readers. Here are some other writer pals you might like to visit on this hop:
Hi, Everyone! I’m pleased to share sci-fi author Pippa Jay’s cover and excerpt for Reboot, her cyberpunk short available online, March 31st! Take it away, Pippa.. 🙂
“Welcome to immortality in utopia!”
From the moment Damien signed up for a perfect life with ReGen Inc., he didn’t ask any questions. He didn’t want or need to know. But after he’s rebooted this time, there are gaps in his memory he can’t ignore, and people he no longer recognizes are accusing him of betrayal. When someone dies, he’s determined to go looking for answers…but sometimes it really is better to forget.
Someone pounded on his door. Damien jerked out of bed, heart hammering. Had ReGen realized their mistake? Were they coming to wipe the rest of his memories?
Reality swept over him as the last of the fog of sleep faded. He wasn’t a hermit. People often came to visit, though they weren’t usually so loud about it.
He pushed off the bed, a slight stiffness making his movements awkward. He clipped the doorframe on his way out and cursed at the spike of pain in his shoulder. Clumsy! The last thing he wanted to do was damage this new body so soon after a reboot.
“Hold on!” he yelled at the unknown visitor hell-bent on punching a hole through his front door.
He was still clothed from last night, but he paused in front of his mirror to drag his fingers through the tufts of his dark hair. “Yes, all right. I’m coming!” He tugged his shirt straight. “Open.”
A dark-haired woman stumbled through the door and fell against him. “Damien!”
His arms circled her by instinct, but the impact sent him staggering back a step or two. “Whoa!”
She gazed up at him, her hazel eyes red-rimmed as if from crying, and her pretty face screwed into wrinkles. “I was so worried. When you didn’t come over last night…”
“Last night? Come where?” Her body pressed into his was causing all kinds of interesting reactions, but confusion overrode them. “Who are you?”
“Who?” Her eyes widened, and she jerked out of his embrace. “What’s wrong with you?”
Fear swamped him again, a cold that chilled him to the bone. “Diagnostics says I’m fine.”
“Diagnostics?” She backed away, as if he’d morphed into the worst kind of monster, then grabbed his right hand. Damien flinched as she rubbed her thumb hard over the back of his hand. Over the place where his scar had been. “Oh…” She dropped his hand, her head still bowed. “Oh, Damien.”
“What?”
Her gaze knifed through him, accusing. “You’ve been rebooted.”
A stay-at-home mum of three who spent twelve years working as an Analytical Chemist in a Metals and Minerals laboratory, Pippa Jay bases her stories on a lifetime addiction to science-fiction books and films. Somewhere along the line a touch of romance crept into her work and refused to leave. In between torturing her plethora of characters, she spends the odd free moments trying to learn guitar, indulging in freestyle street dance and drinking high-caffeine coffee. Although happily settled in historical Colchester in the UK with her husband of 20 years, she continues to roam the rest of the Universe in her head.

Hello, Dear Readers! I’m super excited today to be part of Laura Kaye’s Release Day fun for Hard As You Can, the second book in her Hard Ink Series. Enjoy! 🙂

Q&A WITH LAURA KAYE
HARD AS YOU CAN is your second book in the “Hard Ink” series (after USA Today bestseller, HARD AS IT GETS). What can readers look forward to?
Readers can look forward to tons of sexy alpha male goodness, awesome bromance between the Hard Ink men, more antics from the Hard Ink puppy, and another great love story between Shane and Crystal. But readers should also be ready for a book that is darker, more intense, and more emotional. This book pushed me to emotional places that were tough as a writer, and might be tough for readers, too. But I think that just makes the payoff at the end so much sweeter!
Describe Shane and Crystal. What are their best traits? What are their weaknesses?
Shane and Crystal are such an amazing couple to me. They’re each exactly what the other needs. Shane’s best traits are his protectiveness, his fundamental kindness, and his soul-deep loyalty (his southern accent and humor are also right up there!). His biggest weakness for sure is a tragedy from the past for which he blames himself—and it’s something that continues to motivate him in Hard As You Can. Crystal’s best traits are her courage, protectiveness, and selflessness—she’s willing to do anything to keep her younger sister safe. Her biggest weakness is also that selflessness, because the sacrifices she’s required to make are getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
If you could describe your book in a 140 character tweet, what would it be?
When a woman in trouble assists an ex-soldier’s covert mission to regain his team’s stolen honor, he finds a new mission to save her, too
What are you most excited about with this second book release?
I’m really excited to take readers deeper into these awesome characters and into the mystery behind the Hard Ink team’s ambush and discharge!
What books are you reading right now?
I’m almost done with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander (yes, I’m very late to the party but OMG JAMIE FRASER!!!). And I’ve recently devoured and loved Juliana Stone’s Offsides and Shelly Thacker’s time-travel historical romance, Forever His.
What can fans of your “Hard Ink” series look forward to next?
There will be two more Hard Ink books in 2014!
Hard to Hold on To – August 2014
Hard to Come By – November 2014

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.
Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.
Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn’t want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can–and never let go.

Hi Everyone! Time for some science fiction action! Author Kayelle Allen’s character from Trailing Kaiwulf, Dane Raphyel, pays a visit today! Enjoy!
Travel to a godforsaken planet on the outskirts of space. Check. Hold intrusive military types at bay. Check. Find an invisible man in a different dimension. Check. Finish out the vacation TRAIL yanked you back from to do it? Easier said than done.
Yanked back from their first vacation in ages, Jee and Dane get handed a top priority mission. The pay is better than any they’ve earned before as agents for the Trace, Rescue, and Identification League. With this much money, they might not need jobs. They’re the best there is, and the item, person, or secret hasn’t been invented that these two can’t recover.
But locating this quarry might be a bit past even their considerable skills. After all, how do you find an invisible man in another dimension? And who, exactly, is footing a bill this steep? Certainly not the archaeologist in charge. The military wants to get involved, but they have no monetary stake either. So who — or what — is behind the request to trail Kaiwulf?

Please tell us about yourself.
I work for TRAIL, which stands for Trace, Rescue, and Identification League. Don’t listen our competitors, who’d like you to believe it’s Thieves, Ruffians, Assholes, Idiots, and Liars. We’re the real deal. If it’s lost, we find it. If it’s in danger, we rescue it. If it’s unknown, we identify it. That sums up my job quite well.
I’m married to my college sweetheart, and we have five boys. Since everyone seems to ask, I’ll go ahead and tell you I’m 6’9″ tall. Not the lanky type. I work for a living, so I’m pretty much all muscle. You’d think that would warn people, but no. Bullies seem to ooze out of the floor. I try to defuse the situation, and usually I’m lucky, but there are times when I have to demonstrate that you don’t mess with me.
Still, I prefer a peaceful solution. I don’t carry a weapon unless I have to. Generally, I don’t need one. Besides, my partner, Jee Tonopah, is a walking blade. She’s always packing something that slices or fires.
What is it that you want, but cannot have?
Authors call this the conflict of the story.
In this story, I’m trying to get home. I’d promised my wife I’d be there for more than an overnight stay for a change, and we get called in on a mission.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
Inner doubt? *rubs back of his neck* Don’t rightly know. Maybe that I’m getting too old for all this. I only work for TRAIL so I can afford to be a dad and give my wife and kids a good home. I’d like to settle down. Thing is, Jee needs me. My partner is a well-armed hyperactive jackrabbit with delusions of grandeur. You don’t have to worry about that getting back to her — I’ve said it to her face. I’d hate to see my dear Jee out on her own, and we do work well together. We’ll see. But I think my biggest doubt is that I can keep going. Sometimes you get tired, you know?
What’s your external complication? In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
You see, we’re trying to find this young man named Kaiwulf. Now, believe it or not, he can walk through stone. We don’t know where it is he’s going, or how he gets there. We don’t rightly care, to tell you the truth. All we’re supposed to do is find him, and bring him back to this dimension. Thinking about how you find an invisible man in another dimension — that’s keeping me up at night.
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
That’s my wife, Haylie Jennifer Allard. Everyone calls her Jenny because her best friend growing up was named Haley, and they decided to use their middle names instead. They’re still best friends, and that’s one of the things I love about Jenny. She’s loyal. She’s there no matter what. She loves my partner like a sister. That means a lot to me. I spend day in and day out with Jee, and if Jenny had any issue with that, it would mean I’d have to quit. Because when it comes down to it, I’m in love with Jenny, and she means everything to me. That said, I don’t get to spend the time I want to, nor the time she deserves. Jenny does an amazing job with our sons, and I wish I could be there more to be part of it.
What would that person say about you?
I’m afraid one day she’ll say, “Dane who?” *rolls eyes* Lately, she says I’m not home long enough to please her. Doesn’t please me, either. But she loves me.
What special skills do you rely on?
You’d think it would have to do with my size, but the truth is, my size is part of me, like skin color or the color of my eyes. I can use it to intimidate, and I do when needed. But despite all the sharpshooter training, the background in covert ops, and the physical training that goes into being a TRAIL agent, mostly I depend on my memory. I don’t have an eidetic memory — I can’t remember every detail. But it’s sharper than most people’s. TRAIL makes sure we’re all well educated, and we’re briefed extensively about missions. I can understand more languages than I can speak, and I can speak quite a few. Funny thing, working with Jee, who is not even five feet tall, is that for our size difference, you’d think we would play off the traditional good-cop/bad-cop routine when we need to question people. But we do the opposite. I will usually step up close to people. I’m tall enough that they end up tilting back their heads to look up. When they do, Jee puts herself in their line of vision, usually with a gun in one hand. They can see the threat of my size, and they understand it. But Jee has a hair trigger personality, and when she starts fingering a weapon, they back right down. It’s kind of fun to watch.
Why did you choose to write about this character?
I wanted to write a male / female dynamic that wasn’t a love affair, but was based on mutual respect. Jee and Dane have been partners for a number of years, and they work together like hand and glove. Giving Dane a wife and children he adored made it clear that he and Jee were just friends as well. I plan to write more about them. I think their relationship will be fun to explore.
Why do you write?
I can’t help myself. I’ve tried to stop. It’s no use. I’m a writer. I have to write.
What do you want to write next?
I’m working on an illustrated book about one of my immortals from another series (title: Bringer of Chaos), and a sequel for The Last Vhalgenn, a fantasy I released previously. Plus a few more.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Yes. I’m working on a new adventure for Jee and Dane.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?
Thank you for hanging with me to read this! I’d love to get to know you better. Come meet me on social media or email me. I will answer back. I follow the #Loki hashtag on Twitter, so if you’re a Tom Hiddleston fan, we have something in common!

Alexander crushed his lips to mine. Need roared through me leaving me breathless with edgy hunger. My hands burrowed into his thick, silky hair, holding his head as if he might try to escape. He growled his approval against my lips, his kiss growing more insistent. His tongue explored my mouth. He tasted metallic, like the blood he’d consumed. Again, I found I liked the taste. My tongue danced with his and delved into his mouth, searching for more penny metal flavor. He groaned and tightened his embrace.

Evaine, a struggling New York theater student, enters an unsanctioned drug trial in an effort to pay bills. She awakens in a derelict hospital, chained to a bed with no memory of who she is, or how she got there. A band of pale skinned men, led by the gorgeous Luca, burst in, whisking her away to safety.
Once at Haven House, Evaine is introduced to The Family. Like them, she has become A Deader, a reanimated Undead.
Luca is hell-bent on stopping the experimentations, and killing those responsible. He has no time for a Newborn who is struggling to control her rages, hunger, and powers. Nor does he have the desire to deal with the feelings she’s awakening within him.
Despite their best efforts, Evaine and Luca find their connection intensifying when suddenly, she remembers not only who she is, but also her fiancé, Tristan; who is still looking for her.
Torn between her first love and her new heart’s desire, Evaine runs back to Tristan putting everyone in danger. When a rogue faction of Deaders, called Feeders, attempts to kidnap her, Luca suspects Evaine is the key to the experiments.
Can everyone band together to keep Evaine off the cutting table of those she escaped from? Or will second death tear her away from everyone, for good?
“Let go of me! Let me have him!” She screeched.
“Stop it! The hunger’s strong, but you can control it. You’ve already fed; you don’t need any more.”
Solid arms unwrapped from her waist and turned her, grabbing her by the shoulders. Luca was in her head again. No longer commanding, his voice soothed her, soft as a lover. “Look at me.” He called to her, over and over, until she met his gaze. His eyes blazed, but no longer bright orange. They were blue ice, with sparks of fiery orange flecks in them. She concentrated on his soft, gentle voice. Her head began to clear, and she felt the tingle of his hands through her shirt. Sparks of energy flowed through her body.
“I know you want the high from feeding again. But believe me, you don’t want to start out your new life by killing people—it will haunt you forever. You have to learn to control your hunger. Control the rage.”
His words sunk in and like cool water flowing over a fevered brow. She focused on the vibrations of the sound. His tight black T-shirt was stained with blood and torn in several places. Her gaze roamed over his face and his chest, seeing every hole, every mark, every smudge. Luca was a good head taller than her and broad as two men at the shoulders. An unmistakable musky odor rolled off of him and sent fire into her belly. She traced light patterns over the surface of his T-shirt with her fingers absently. He watched her fingertips as they touched him. Fire bloomed inside her in sudden waves of need. She wanted nothing more than to feel his lips on her skin. The weight of his hip bones on hers as they made love. Embarrassed at her shockingly sexual thoughts of a man she didn’t know, she glanced away.
He released her and took a step away, still watching her with a rapt interest. The moments passed and she finally relaxed. Luca stepped forward, grabbing her once more, and ushered her toward the front of the house. Behind her she could hear Aron quietly apologizing to the workers for her behavior.
What happened? Her body ached as though she had run a marathon. She didn’t want to move; she didn’t want to think. One minute she’d been completely fine getting out of the car. The next, out of control, taken over by a rage and her need to feed. And have sex. She sagged, exhausted, sad, and embarrassed. Allowing herself to be drug along, she was so weary all she could think about was her feet. Right over left, right over left. Lift, drop, lift, drop.
The warm air from the inside of the house whooshed out to greet her as she stepped up the front steps. Luca walked her down an entrance hall over to the side of a staircase. He pressed on one of the wainscoting panels, and it slid inward, exposing a dark hidden passage.
