KOS MARAS’s orderly life is in shambles—he must distribute Blood Vine to a population of ailing vampires, but Hunters block him at every turn. To make matters worse, each night he watches over a temptingly beautiful woman sleeping in his bed. He is convinced love cannot last a vampire-long lifetime and an entanglement will only cause them grief, but he doesn’t have the heart to send her away.

From a long line of blood servants, LENA ISAAKSON is destined to serve a vampire, but a string of humiliating rejections thwarts her pleasure. When Kos shows her kindness, she hopes he will claim her. Instead he proves himself a coward in the face of love and sends her to serve another.

Will the dark seduction of a rakish new vampire finally bring Lena the pleasure she desires or deliver her into the hands of Hunters who want to destroy everything the Maras family has worked for?

AUTHOR BIO

Amber Belldene grew up on the Florida panhandle, swimming with alligators, climbing oak trees and diving for scallops…when she could pull herself away from a book. As a child, she hid her Nancy Drew novels inside the church bulletin and read mysteries during sermons—an irony that is not lost on her when she preaches these days.

Amber is an Episcopal Priest and student of religion. She believes stories are the best way to explore human truths. Some people think it is strange for a minister to write romance, but it is perfectly natural to her, because the human desire for love is at the heart of every romance novel and God made people with that desire. She lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco.

Happy Friday, dear readers!

It starts like this…

What’s In A World?

Worldbuilding is one of my favorite aspects of writing urban fantasy and paranormal romance. My brain enjoys taking the real world and twisting it like salt water taffy, molding it into the perfect playground for my characters…

Laura Kaye’s South of Surrender Release Day Blitz

Hello, dear readers! I’m delighted to turn over my blog to the fabulous Laura Kaye today for her release day blitz. Take it away, Laura! 🙂

South of Surrender Release Day Blitz Giveaway

image, Laura Kaye, South of Surrender, Release Day Blitz
I am thrilled to welcome Chrysander Notos and Laney Summerlyn to the world today, and to welcome back the whole Anemoi family, too! Chrys and Laney are the hero and heroine of South of Surrender, the third book in my Greek-mythology inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series. The Anemoi were wind gods the Greeks associated with controlling the wind, the weather, and the seasons, and as the summer god, Chrys is the hottest of them all! Passions and conflict between the Anemoi brothers heat way, way up in South of Surrender. Need more proof? Check out this tense excerpt as well as the giveaway that follows!

Excerpt

Aeolus stepped forward. “We are all expendable. It is not the god, but the wind he serves, that matters. So I ask each of you now. Are you prepared to stand and fight?”

The gods offered solemn agreement.

Aeolus moved to the center of the room. Anger and determination carved hard angles into his face. Thunder and lightning split the sky. “I say again. Are you prepared to stand and fight?

A loud, fierce cheer of approval and commitment shook the room. Teddy fussed but didn’t cry, as if even his divine energy understood the threat they faced.

“Make no mistake. We are at war. We will not all come out of it alive. Sacrifices will be made.” He held up his maimed hand. “And you must understand the full extent of what you are up against. Eurus possesses the firestone ring. He has power over the winds, over each of you. This is my fault. I fully acknowledge it. And I stand ready to sacrifice myself to set this right.” Murmurs sounded from around the room.

This…this was the resignation he’d seen on Aeolus’s face. As many grievances as Chrys could voice against his father, he would fight to the last to prevent any of his family from dying. They’d lost enough. Had enough turmoil. For several lifetimes.

Aeolus continued. “Together, we are strong. Eurus cannot take us all at once. We must fight. To avenge the death of one of our own who has fallen this night. To avenge wrongs against others of our numbers in recent days, weeks, and months. To preserve and protect the human realm, as is our duty and purpose.”

Boreas pushed off the wall and stood tall. “In the name of the North Wind, I stand ready to fight.”

Zeph nodded. “In the name of the West Wind, I, too, stand ready to fight.”

“In the name of the South Wind, and in the name of vengeance for the Southeast Wind, I stand ready to kick some ass,” Chrys said. “So what’s our plan?”

Sweaty Romance – What Moves You?

Hello dear readers. I was going to take a posting break this week but then Carina, my feisty heroine from Haven, gave me that don’t-you-dare look and offered to interview me on the romance topic. I didn’t dare say, no, LOL.

So let’s talk about love, shall we? And away we go…

Haven book coverHi Carina, thanks for taking the reins here. I’m ready when you are.

No Problem, Celia. I’ll keep it simple. For now. What’s your favorite romance?

Good question. And oh, there’s so much romance goodness out there. As you know from your own romantic experiences starring in Haven, I love urban fantasy (UF) with a strong romantic component. And I adore paranormal romance (PNR). I write and read both.

Highlander romance runs a close second to UF and PNR and the occasional Contemporary Romance also turns my head.

That’s great, Celia. And thanks for Alexander. He’s undead Awesome Sauce. Now, give us some specific reading recs, per favore.

My pleasure, Carina. Or rather, yours, re: Alexander *ahem*… 😉

As for specific romance titles, my favorite paranormal romance series include: Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark, J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander Series, Amber Belldene’s Blood Vine series, and Laura Kaye’s Hearts of Anemoi series.

Grazie for the reading recs. Now tell us, why do you like reading romances?

I like stories with a Happily Ever After (HEA), or at the very least a Happily For Now (HFN). Romances give me that, and more.

Fair enough. Do you have any fun/embarrassing stories from WRITING that sweaty scene? I just bet you do.

One evening, while I was working on a paranormal romance featuring a merman-human hybrid, my husband peered over my shoulder. I was working on a steamy scene set in the human heroine’s bathroom and my husband said:

“Your brain scares me.” Pause. “I wish I could unsee that.”

Best. Compliments. Ever. LOL ☺

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “you scare me…” (Carina shakes her head) but I digress. Okay, Celia, almost done with the interrogation, I mean, interview. Do you have a favorite sweaty scene?

Oh man, there are so many awesome sweaty scenes in so many delightful romances, how can I possibly pick just one?

Hm… Okay, sheesh don’t give me the evil eye!

Here: Laura Kaye’s *awesome* contemporary romance Hearts In Darkness features a man and a woman trapped in an elevator in the dark. Their interactions in the darkness are so, so good. Read my review for more info.

Va bene, Celia. Last question: Do you have romances to share?

Haven book coverYes. Let’s share yours, Carina.

Haven, an urban fantasy romance, will be available this July 2nd from Champagne Book Group. Vampires, love, mayhem…and of course, more fun with Carina.

Here’s the elevator pitch: San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli discovers latent powers and makes peace with her vampire family, destiny and soul mate, with Team Evil in hot pursuit.

And here’s a little romance snippet:

Alexander crushed his lips to mine. Need roared through me and my hands burrowed into his thick, silky hair, holding his head as if he might try to escape. He growled his approval against my lips, his kiss growing more insistent. He tasted metallic, like the blood he’d consumed. Again, I found I liked the taste…

Bring on the Heat – Dragonstone by Paula Millhouse

Hello Dear Readers. I’m delighted to welcome my writer pal and chapter mate from RWA-FF&P Paula Millhouse to my blog for another visit. Paula writes romantic suspense, fantasy, and paranormal romance. She joins us today to share her latest release Dragonstone, a High Heat Fantasy Romance.

Hi Paula! Where did you get the inspiration for Dragonstone?
amethyst from book coverMy writing friend Lynn inspired Dragonstone. I found her through a writing class sponsored by RWA’s FF&P group, Edit the Life Back Into Your Story, where we studied stimulus/response units, and emotional impact. That writing class changed my life.
Then I read her book. Faery’s Bargain is fast, hotter than Hades, and filled with an emotional punch that inspired my characters into action. She writes under the pen name Madeleine Drake.

Why dragons?
I’ve maintained a love affair with dragons since childhood. They’re the perfect anti-hero, so misunderstood, and maligned (well…there is all that princess eating and knight bashing). Okay, so dragons have a rep. I like that. To me, they represent a magical force that only the savviest characters in literature can tame. I’m very picky about my dragons. Check out my Pinterest page for examples of dragons I love.

What I’ve done with DRAGONSTONE is impart an intelligence to these creatures and made them significant to the elves in the story.

Yes, I played D&D in high school. Maybe that sparked my love of world-building?

My favorite dragons: Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, Temeraire, from Naomi Novik’s His Magesty’s Dragon, and Smaug, from The Hobbit.

Do you have a favorite character?
Magnus, the dragonlet is my favorite character in DRAGONSTONE. (I’m kinda partial to Kort, too. Have you seen his chest?)

Do you have a least favorite character?
Yes, the Vicar and his angry mob.

Tell us about the world you’ve created.
Somewhere north of Middle Earth and east of Westeros the Kingdom of Chalvaren lies carved out of mysterious mountains, and Castle Elias waits by the sea. In that castle a royal dragon egg hatchery is maintained, and watched over by elves, dragons, and their wizards.

In DRAGONSTONE, a mercenary with a cause fueled by elven legends, steals the egg. Kort Elias, heir to the throne, travels to an alternate dimension similar to Earth to give chase. Along the way, Kort realizes the dragonlet has hatched, and his quest intensifies. If he doesn’t find the dragon child, and return him home to safety, devastation looms.

Magnus, the horse-sized baby dragon leads him straight into an impending disaster: he’s located the lost princess of Chavaren, Mia Ansgar, who guards an artifact of immense value to Kort’s people. When Kort’s discovers Mia harbors the Dragonstone, his plans change radically, and he realizes he must return them all to Chalvaren.

The one thing standing in his way is his princess.

**This story is intended for mature audiences, BTW**

Oh, and the novel follow-up exists as my current WIP. Fingers crossed.

book coverDragonstone
Elf prince Kort Elias travels to medieval Earth in search of a stolen royal dragon egg and discovers a lost elven treasure and the missing princess assigned to guard it.

In order to save their future realm, Kort and Mia must blend their auras and wield a spell of carnal magic to release the Dragonstone…and set in motion a prophecy of happiness for themselves and their dragons.
