Hi Everyone!

::tosses confetti:: ::pops champagne::
Take it away, Mahalia! 🙂

Mahalia Interviews Ravage

“I have Ravage, my hero from Seducing The Schoolmarm here for an interview. Let’s get started! So “Rav”, what makes you special?”

“I’m not so special darlin’, just a Southern man who was taught how to treat others right.”

His charm warms my cheeks as I sit across from him, the tip of my pen in my mouth. “What differentiates you from your kind, then?” I wait, anxious to see if he’ll open up or not.

Ravage leans forward and delivers a panty dropping smile. “My kind is supposed to be a secret darlin’. I’m figuring you must want to be carted off to our land for an adventure of your own.”

A growl reverberates through the air, making me turn my attention from “Rav” to the new intruder. My heart flutters and my panties grow damp. Eyes wide, I take in the image in front of me. A scowling exact replica of the delicious male in front of me. Darting my gaze back and forth, I can’t decide who to look at more, the charming man in front of me or the beast who broke into my office, interrupting my interview.

“Excuse me,” I find my voice. “Who are you and why are you barging into a private interview?”

Sexiness on a stick flicks an annoyed gaze to the man across from me. “Raze, you can go now.”

“Oh! I didn’t realize there were two of you
til now,” I stammer. Dark and sexy swaggers over to his brother and punches him in the face. “Quit acting like you’re me, fuck face.”

Raze offers an apologetic gaze my way while cracking his jaw and standing. I notice two things: they are identical, from voice to looks, tattoos and all, and it’s a bit overwhelming to have double the testosterone so close.

“Lovely, it was my pleasure meeting you. Have fun with this brute.” He shoves past his twin, out the door. I’m sad to see him go.

“He’s gay.”

“Alright, now that we have that settled.” My cheeks pinken. So sue me, I’m thinking what a waste. Imagine the Galveston sandwich that could be. The beast looks at me with a hint of bafflement making me giggle.

“I got things to take care of darlin’. A twin bro, and crazy younger sister who needs twenty-four hour supervision.”

“All right. So “Rav,” I was asking Raze what makes him–erm, you special?”

Seducing the Schoolmarm by Mahalia Levey book cover

“My cock.” He takes a seat and leans back. “I’m kidding darlin’. I’m not so special just a man.”

My mind is now stuck on what his dick looks like. As if he knows, he teases me by lifting his shirt up a tad to show his rock hard abs. Fuck if it ain’t beautifully sculpted. I cough. “Erm okay. What differentiates you from your kind? Then?”

He takes a minute to think. His hand runs through his ever so messy hair. “Fuck darlin’ that’s a bat shit crazy question. We’re all the same. Beasts. Me I’m a different breed of beast. A natural fighter, Shifter Mixed Martial Art fighter.”

“Wow. Can you elaborate?”

“I could but why would I do that when you can read the book.” He winks.

“Do you have special abilities?”

“I shift into a hulking wolf. What do you think?” He quirks a brow my way and gifts me with the sexiest smile I’ve ever seen. Well, except for his twin’s.

“And the stamina.” He adds for good measure.

“Tell us about your most current adventure.”

“Darlin’ most of my adventures revolve around a sexy schoolteacher and her habit of running. “Love a good hard chase.”

“Are you happy with the way people perceive you?”

“Hmph. Yeah, Teach seems to think I need taken care of, though. Fuck if I know. I’m too busy taking care of everyone else. Fuckin’ feelin’s are not the way of the beast.”

“Tell us a little bit about your world.”

“Why don’t you be our guest for a week?”

His turning around the question makes me laugh. “I can’t do that. I know I’d have to stay forever. Soooo
What kind of music do you listen to?”

“Country boy at heart. Some rock but not that screaming bullshit. Man’s gotta be able to think.”

“Is expressing love difficult for you? Why?”

He looks at me like I’ve grown two heads. “Why the hell would I want to talk about love?” He evades. His face softens a tad. “I fuckin’ love that woman. Have since I first heard her sweet prissy voice on the phone.”

“Share a little bit of the ‘real’ you with our readers. Any Dark secrets?”

“The real me? Baby I don’t do pretenses. As for secrets, in my world that gets you in a right fuck’d situation with the Alpha. Nah, don’t got time to be anything but this beast right here next to you.”

“What is your most favorite thing to do?”

“Fuck. Hunt. Fuck. Sleep.”

“You know you said fuck twice.”

“Yeah? Maybe I like it twice as much.” He shrugs.

“What’s your job for the Tao Pack?”

“I’m a dominant. I patrol and take care of shit needing taken care of, also helping rebuild our community.” A grin spreads across his face as he takes pride in being a part of something bigger than himself.

“Do you sing in the shower?”

“Do you? I find other fun things to do in the shower. Singin ain’t one of them.”

“Have you ever lost control? And what was the outcome?”

“Yes, and luv, no one wants to see that, least no one wanting to live.”

“How many sex partners have you had? How many at one time?”

“You tryin’ to get me in deep with the Mrs.? I plead the fifth.” He looks ansty to leave and I remember his familial obligations.

“Any words of advice to leave the readers with Ravage?”

“Seducing The Schoolmarm is available now. Stop by and read about the Galveston brood. Don’t get your panties in a twist if you don’t get enough of me. I promise you other stories are coming and you’ll see All.Of.Me. Again.” He takes my hand, kisses it and saunters out of the room.

Adrie gasped, sparks flying as his mouth brushed with hers. Her heart pounded a furious pace, but what stunned her most was his masculine taste, all heat and pulsating power. She parted her lips for his onslaught, enjoyed the way he stroked his tongue into her mouth as if he had all the time in the world, delivering the mother of all panty-drenching kisses. His long, strong fingers slid through her hair, holding her head hostage. Heat emanated from his body, enveloping her in his rich, spiced sandalwood scent.

Her Wolf sighed in sweet relief while her brain urgently advised her to distance herself, break off the best first kiss in history. But how could she? How could she deny the need to mate with this magnificent man when she’d enjoyed getting to know him and saw his inherent decency matched inside and out?

What had she expected, a shallow playboy perhaps? The single male wolves she’d met thus far proved to be the how-can-I-get-in-your-pants-fast type of guys. Horny, fabulous-smelling specimens of her species with their little heads leading, not their big ones.

“I can hear you thinking.” He nipped her bottom lip, sucking it into his mouth.

Adrie growled, sweeping her tongue over his to take charge of the kiss— breathing in his oxygen and exhaling—and dared to run her palms over his muscle-ripped torso. She wanted more, so much more.

“Teach, playing with me can be dangerous.” He plucked the glasses off her face for a second time, giving her no shield to hide behind. He flicked the buttons of her shirt open with deft fingers, leaving her pink lace bra on display. “Damn sexy. Wanna bet you have matching panties on under there?” He lifted her onto the table, inching his hand along her bare thigh to push up the pencil skirt. He knelt before her. “Spread your legs, Teach.”

Adrie’s face heated with his scorching words. No one’s ever talked to me like this. So carnal. So dirty. Damn, it’s so freaking hot.

Buy a Book, Help a Vet – D. L. Jackson’s Finding Mercy

Hi Everyone!

I’m visiting two other blogs today. Join me at author Jill Archer’s blog for a fun interview in her Five Photographs” blog series. Then wander over to author C. R. Moss’s blog for her interview with Darci Diamond, the heroine in my recent paranormal romance release, DIAMOND MOON.

Buy A Book, Help a Vet

Author D. L. Jackson is here on my blog today with an important message and special request. Read on to see how you, too, might help our military veterans…

A message from Military Veteran and Author D.L. Jackson

Please take a moment to read this and share. The more this post is shared, the more eyes will be on it.

This is no joke. Every 65 minutes, a military veteran commits suicide.

I’m going to be honest here. Finding Mercy took a lot out of me when I wrote it. I had so much to say and there was no other way I could think to show you what I felt. Finding Mercy is not a warm and fuzzy romance. It is a struggle for one man to learn to love again, himself, and someone else. It is a book about hope, when all seems hopeless. It is a book about choosing to step out of the dark, no matter how impossible it seems.

Combat medics have a dangerous job, and part of that job is dragging wounded off hot battlefields. They have hearts for healing and helping, and because of this, cannot help collecting a few scars of their own, both physically and mentally.

We cannot erase PTSD or injuries caused in battle by pretending they don’t exist. But we can move forward by supporting our military and vets, as they face those crossroads. Here’s a link to some facts about veterans and active duty military featured on PBS, Public Broadcasting System.

I’d like you to join me in raising some money for a great cause. I’ve asked my publisher to track all sales for this book for the month of April, May and June 2015. I’m not asking for reviews or a bump in the ratings. You don’t even have to like this book, but I hope you do. What I am asking, is that you buy this book April 1st- June 30th 2015, and share the link. It costs $2.99, the price of a cup of coffee. Not a huge chunk of change. We spend more than that on a salad or burger at any given time.

Starting April 1st and running through June 30th, I will donate my total royalties from the sale of Finding Mercy, an erotic military romance, to a charity that helps military and veterans who suffer from PTSD. Because of federal regulations, I cannot state I am donating total sales of a product to a particular charity, so I need to be non-specific who I give to. I know, I know, regulations. I will therefore round up my donation up to the nearest whole dollar amount and give a lump sum that is a little bit more than what I earned for the quarter. It will not be the “sales” but a sum a little bit more than what I earned and to a charity that won’t be named (Just know it’s going to help service members, past and present).

Buy the book, help a service member. It’s that simple.

This is about something I strongly believe in. You see, I’m a vet. My husband is a vet. His grandfather served in the Navy in WWII, my father in the Air Force during Vietnam. My mother-in-law is a Marine, and both of my sons are active duty. My oldest is currently on his third deployment. My youngest, a Combat Medic, is preparing for his first.

I’ve seen the face of PTSD. It belongs to our sons and daughters, wives and husbands, fathers and mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers. It is our neighbors, friends and co-workers. It doesn’t discriminate, and it doesn’t just go away. Wounded vets need help.

Help me, help them.

You’ll die in three minutes without oxygen, three hours without shelter, three days without water and three weeks without food. But could you live a lifetime with a broken heart?

Mercy Evans has come to Evans Point hoping to collect herself and find a way to resurrect her career as an anchorwoman for Cheyenne’s news station. Sergeant Justin Redway has come to Evans Point to try to forget his past and survive all he’s done.

One is a battle-damaged veteran, the other a desperate woman who will go to any extreme to get his story. When their worlds collide, sparks fly and old wounds open. As the chasm between the fated lovers widens, it might be too big to cross.

One town, two lovers, and a second chance at finding mercy.

Jeremy and Charlie get their HEA!

Hard to Be Good - Cover

About HARD TO BE GOOD:

Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his brother’s stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy’s whole world has been turned upside down—not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.

Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he’s drawn into the SF team’s investigation of his army colonel father’s corruption, he’s surprised to find acceptance and friendship—especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie’s opposite in almost every way.

With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can’t help but wonder why they’re trying so hard to be good…

“You should be inside celebrating,” Jeremy said, his voice a raw scrape. “You and Marz did an amazing thing this morning.” An hour ago, Marz and Charlie had cracked open a heavily encrypted microchip that contained a wealth of information that not only seemed likely to help the team clear its name, but proved that Charlie’s father hadn’t been dirty, like they’d all thought. “And I’m so happy for you about your dad.”

A wounded darkness passed through Charlie’s gaze, but he finally nodded. “Didn’t feel right without you there.” Pink filtered into his cheeks, and damn if that wasn’t as cute as it was sexy. Jeremy wasn’t sure anything had ever made him blush.

“I’m just not—” Jeremy shrugged and looked down at Charlie’s chest again. Having seen the guy dress more than once, he knew that shirt covered lean muscle that ran from strong shoulders down to his narrow hips. Jeremy fisted his hands against the urge to burrow them under the hem of the tee. After weeks of looking, and wanting, he was dying to touch. Jeremy found Charlie hard to read though, and hadn’t wanted to do anything to scare him off. “—very good company right now. I’m sorry if that—”

Charlie nudged Jeremy’s chin up with his hand, his fingers just barely touching Jer’s stubble-covered skin. But then his thumb landed softly against his lips.

Jeremy’s heartbeat kicked up and his lips fell open. Slowly, oh so tentatively, Charlie stroked the soft pad of his thumb back and forth across them.

“Charlie,” Jeremy whispered as arousal surged through his body, spiking his pulse, tensing his muscles, hardening his dick.

Uncertainty poured off Charlie as the man’s hand trembled where it touched him, but those blue eyes absolutely blazed desire. No way was Jeremy imagining that.

“You’re always good company, to me,” Charlie said in a low voice, his gaze dropping to Jeremy’s lips. Charlie leaned in closer, and closer still, and Jeremy could hardly believe the other man was the one to initiate this. But he was fucking thrilled.

Jeremy swallowed, his lips anticipating that first soft brush. Charlie was so close his shaky breath caressed Jeremy’s lips. His pace was maddening but so damn sexy Jer could barely breathe. And then Charlie’s eyelids fluttered closed and he was right there

Interview: Meet Author Audra Middleton

Hello Dear Readers,

I’m delighted to welcome author Audra Middleton to my blog today for a chat. She shares fun facts about herself and also info on her latest book release and giveaway. Enjoy!

author imageHi Audra! Tell my readers a little bit about yourself. Something not in your bio, perhaps?
My youngest recently asked me what I’m an expert at. It stumped me for a minute because being capable of something and being an expert at it are two different things — but I came up with: bacon, worrying, sleeping in, and daydreaming. Writing down my daydreams is what got me into this whole author gig. The other things on my list are admittedly less productive.

What genres do you write in?
I have eclectic taste in fiction. I write in whatever genre inspires me at any given time. I have published a fantasy series, a humorous paranormal thriller, and a romantic comedy. I also have ideas for a horror/suspense novel and a historical fiction series.

And, what do you love about writing in your genres?
Fantasy & paranormal allow me to think outside of the box, throw in some unique twists that you wouldn’t find in a typical contemporary fiction novel. Also, elements of magic and paranormal come in quite handy for getting characters out of impossible situations. Character needs to be miles away in short order? Someone nearby happens to know an instant transport spell

What’s on your bookshelf and/or in your To Be Read pile?
I am currently reading The Travelers, a scifi novel by Keith Wayne McCoy and Book Two of George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series. Like my laundry pile, my two-be-read pile is endless.

What’s on your bookshelf and/or in your To Be Read pile?
Truman Capote, because he knew how to party and I admire his work a great deal. I’d also choose Stephen King. In addition to providing some great writing advice, he might tell a creepy story, and I can never get enough of those.

Either/Or

Coffee or tea? Coffee, with lots of flavored creamer.

Sweet or salty? Both!

Cats or dogs?
Dogs have less tendency to use their claws against me.

Mountains or beach?
Both are lovely exhibits of nature, but I’d choose the beach. As long as you stay out of the water, beach animals are less likely to eat you than mountain animals.

Favorite food:
I’ve never met a piece of bacon I didn’t like.

Favorite color:
Red – strawberries, roses, cherries, lips – so many of my favorite things are red!

Favorite music:
90s alternative – Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam to name a few.

Favorite supernatural creature?
Dragons are sexy.

Favorite TV show?
Game of Thrones – dragons, zombies, swords, treachery, intrigue, none of the amazing characters are safe. What’s not to love?

Chocolate, milk or dark?
If it’s not covered in bacon, smother it in milk chocolate and I’ll be happy.

Tell us about your new release!
I recently released a romantic comedy called Middle Eight:

image, middle eight book cover
He’s sex, drugs, and rock and roll. She’s spray bleach, spreadsheets, and check lists. Will their relationship hit the charts, or break hearts?

When the normal life Ray has always dreamed of unravels, she finds herself falling for a drummer, coming to terms with her unconventional childhood, and inevitably discovering that normal was never really in her best interest.

***ADULTS ONLY EXCERPT***

I put my hands on my knees and leaned over in a full-on sex
kitten pose. “I’m kinky. I’m into bondage. I like to tie men like
you up and have them for dinner,” I said into his ear. Part of me
contemplated adding, Not, like, literally, since this boy was skittish.
Again with the ragged breaths. This one was going to drive
me crazy. I undid those tempting buttons on his vest first. Jeez, a
jacket, vest, and shirt just to get to this guy’s skin? What a tease.

“Okay,” he said softly. “Um, what do I do?” His eyes were still
full of fear and questions, but I knew he was game. His body was
telling me more by the second. His open, wet mouth and the
stiffening in his pants betrayed his real interest.

I smiled. “All you have to do is obey. Submit.”

“Okay, but I don’t think I’ve ever done either of those things
in my life,” he admitted, his roguish expression returning. I knew
he was too cocky for this. “What happens if I don’t?” He narrowed
his eyes and pouted his lips.

Instead of dropping my smile, it widened. “You get punished.”

It was go big or go home time with my Dirty Playboy, and he had
lessons to learn.

His tan skin blanched slightly and he forced a nod. “Yes . . .
Mistress?”

I tapped his cheek with my fingers. “You’re a fast learner.
Good boy.” And apparently I was a fast learner, too, because I was
even convincing myself I was up for this. Part of me considered
FaceTiming Sarah for tips, but I knew I needed to do this on my
own.

Swinging my legs over the center console, I planted myself
firmly in his lap with my bag of tricks to my right. I unlocked
the cuffs for a moment so I could get that stifling jacket off him.

“Don’t worry, those are going back on,” I said.

He nodded.

“But first, I’m going to bind your chest.” I slid his jacket off his
shoulders and tossed it behind us. A stiff piece of paper dropped
beside the seat, probably a business card. I clicked the furry cuffs
back into place and his arms were immobile again. Damn, he
looked so good. Even though he had the stereotypical rich brat
look about him, there was an edge to the way he dressed and with
his hair a mess, it made me want to reveal the bad boy inside who
was dying to get out. But those diamond cufflinks winked at me,
telling me exactly how much I needed to know about Aston. He
was loaded and spoiled rotten. And I was a girl from the rough
side of town.

A smile inched halfway up his cheek. I knotted the end of
the rope to one of the seat belt anchors and wound it around the
back of the seat. My chest pressed full up against his as my arms
worked to feed the rope to the other side. He smelled like pine
and sugar and I wanted to moan right there, straddling him, flush
against his hard body. I clenched my teeth to keep the sounds
inside and eased back, winding the rope around his chest and
then back around the seat. We sat like this, close then apart, for
nearly a minute. I felt him harden and squirm with each rotation
until I finally reached the end of the skein. I knotted it with a
pretty bow and sat back to examine my handiwork. Pretty decent
for a first-timer…

EXCERPT

When the glide arrived at her stop, she stepped off with a swell of other riders. She crossed the asphalt road, once used for gas-powered vehicles, and took a deep breath. I’m finally home. Sliding her card to gain access to the secure building, her heart raced in anticipation. She needed to be with Erik, find out the truth, and reunite with the man she loved. However, her apartment door didn’t open.

“Access denied,” the robotic female voice rang out.

What? She tried again with the same result. Sliding the card faster or slower didn’t make a difference. She couldn’t get into her apartment building.

“Please vacate the area. Authorities have been notified.”

Calla’s stomach twisted. Her throat tightened. Was this Malock’s doing?

She pulled out her communicator and contacted the building manager. “Taylor, it’s Calla Jacobs. My card won’t work in the reader. Can you please open the door for me?”

He grimaced at her. “I’m sorry, Jacobs, but I’m under strict orders not to let you into the building. Your apartment has already been assigned to another employee, and your belongings were taken a week ago to Planet Core.” He disconnected, leaving her to stare at a blank screen.

A week ago? Malock had planned her demise before she’d even left for Airondelle? Tears threatened to fall. She wiped them away. With PC cameras all over the city, she imagined he watched her and laughed. She stood tall, not letting him get to her.

Although she had no possessions, no place to live, she could still live a happy life with Erik. But where was he if not at her apartment? After they’d decided to return to being friends, he’d moved to Planet Core claiming she would be too much of a temptation for him if they continued living together.

She dialed his communicator, hoping he’d be nearby. When he failed to answer, not once, but five times within ten minutes, Calla lost hope. Malock had ruined her as he’d threatened. She had nothing left. Her only option was to return home to her parents. A glide could get her there by nightfall.

She squashed that irrational thought. No! She’d rather live in the rumored underground cities than go crawling back to the two people who’d admitted they’d only had her to gain status in the business world. She couldn’t go back there. She’d rather take her chances and return to Planet Core.

Sirens hauled her back from her thoughts. A police hover bike flew past her and ground to a halt. Glancing in her direction, the officer pointed at her.

I haven’t done anything wrong!

When the bike circled toward her, she ran—her first instinct. Malock knew too many people, and he’d reminded his recruits every day when he’d dropped in on their training. She hadn’t realized how those words would affect her until now.

The siren on the bike screamed behind her. She motioned to cross at the intersection where people and hover vehicles waited for the lights to change. But instead, she spun around the corner, hoping to throw off the officer. She peered over her shoulder to see if the bike followed her, and smacked into what felt like a brick wall. Landing on her ass, she stared up at the mountain of a man before her.

The guard from Planet Core.

She crab-walked backward across the concrete sidewalk. Hopping onto her feet, she fled back onto the main street. She traveled the way she’d come, unsure if anywhere would be safe. No one could escape the cameras.

Hurrying past her building, she spotted the hover bike reflected in its dark glass walls. The siren had been turned off, and the officer was almost on her. She scanned her surroundings for an escape route. Similar glass buildings lined the next few blocks, all owned by Planet Core. She couldn’t get into any of them now, and there was no place she could hide.

Her lungs ached from running. Maybe she should surrender. What then? I’ll be killed.

“Stop!” The officer on the bike rocketed in front of her.

At the same time, something grabbed her arm and yanked her into darkness. A cloth slammed over her mouth, muffling her cry. Shit! Things just went from bad to worse.

Hi Everyone! My writer pal Pippa Jay visits today with an awesome cover reveal and excerpt! Enjoy!

Hallow's Eve book cover by Pippa Jay

Zombie Girl: Dead Awakened
by Pippa Jay

Imagine waking up to find the world has ended, but unfortunately you’re not alone…

For Connor Innis, awakening from a year-long coma with no memories, no ability to move, and unable to speak was bad enough. Then he learns that a bioweapon set off a zombie apocalypse—for real—while he was sleeping, and the world he can’t even remember no longer exists.

Rehabilitation might be torture, but far worse awaits him outside. All too soon, the hospital Mentor declares him fit to leave but with nothing to go home to except a city full of mindless, flesh-eating monsters. That is, until he forms a strange relationship with the one he nicknames ‘Zombie Girl’.

Zombie Girl: Dead Awakened is the first part of a YA dystopian romance trilogy, releasing 22nd April, 2015. Please add it to your Goodreads shelf here , or sign up for my no-spam newsletter here for special previews on cover reveals, new releases, the latest giveaways and discounts, and upcoming news.

Excerpt

He woke to sensations of warmth and heaviness. The relentless thump, thump of a heartbeat and the rushing sound of someone breathing unsteadily. It took time to recognize the heartbeat as his own, to connect the breathing to air moving in and out of his own chest. How long had he been asleep?

He didn’t remember going to bed. He couldn’t open his eyes. Confusion muddled his thoughts. Wait. Why can’t I move?

Panic set his pulse racing, but a weight held him down. He choked on something pressing at the back of his throat. Nothing responded as he struggled to move. Damn, am I paralyzed? Trapped under something?

“Please try to remain calm. You are perfectly safe.”

Remain calm? What the fuck does this moron expect?

“Please try to calm yourself.”

He couldn’t place a gender to the voice, and the flat unemotional tone meant it was probably synthetic. What were they called? Mentors. That was it. An artificial entity called a Mentor. The knowledge seeped into his awareness like blood oozing through a shallow cut.

His struggles weren’t getting him anywhere except a quick trip to a heart attack. He forced himself to take slow breaths, to steady himself. Not because the voice said so, but because there was nothing else he could do. He swallowed, painfully aware of the pressure of a tube in his nose and down his throat. He tried to talk, and heard a weird gurgle instead of words.

“Please relax. Do not attempt to move or speak at this time. Once you are calm, I will explain your situation fully.”

Poem: Ritual for Lost Children

Hello Dear Readers,

Love Poem Challenge

Love Poem Challenge

I’m pleased to announce I won author Audra Middleton’s Love Poem Challenge! ::happy dance:: Thanks to everyone who visited my entry in the challenge! â˜ș

For those of you who missed it, here’s the scoop: Fellow Champagne Books author Audra Middleton challenged several authors to write a love poem in 25 words or less. So this month, I wrote a short variation of a longer poem from “Flow”, a collection of poems composed after the loss of my first child during the first trimester of my pregnancy several years ago. I’ve included the short version as well as the original one, below.

Love in all its varied forms is a popular theme in my writing. Here, it’s motherly love

Ritual for Lost Children (version 2)
By Celia Breslin

Wrapped my heart
in smooth red cotton
tied with string

Placed it on the Lost Children’s altar
and breathed you free
to follow another path

Ritual for Lost Children (original, version 1)
By Celia Breslin

I said goodbye to you today
Wrapped up my heart

In smooth red cotton
Tied neatly with string

Placed it gently
On the Lost Children’s altar

Gave it to the Eskimo god
As the meditation bowl sang

And the Nag Champa smoked
A chorus of maternal moans

Release said the Buddhist monk
Release release release

So I loosened our psychic bond
And breathed you free

To flow into memory
To follow another path.
