Nanowrimo Update & Next Big Thing Blog Hop

book cover Nanowrimo is more than half over and I’m happy to report that my WiP is thriving.

As part of the The Next Big Thing Blog Hop I’m answering some NBT Blog Hop questions about my current work-in-progress (WiP). Thanks to three of my writer friends — Amber Belldene, Paula Millhouse, and Ed Hooanaert for tagging me. I’ll tag other writers at the end of my update.

And away we go… ☺

Celia Breslin’s Next Big Thing

How long have you been writing your WiP?
This is a Nanowrimo novel, so started on November 1, 2012.

book cover What is the working title of your book?
First it was “Geek Story”. Now it’s “Swim for Shore”.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
Earlier this year Entangled Publishing put out a call for Geek romance novella submissions. I didn’t answer the novella call but the concept of Geek Love interested me greatly, so I let my muse ponder it for a bit while I finished up some other writing projects.

What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal romance, of course. Once I started developing my main characters, the Hero soon told me he was a merman.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Hm, good one. For my hawt merdude: Chris Hemsworth if he would be willing to dye his hair black. Or Ian Somerhalder. For his love-interest: Emma Watson or Carey Mulligan.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Human-merman hybrid (Technology Geek) saves human girl (Literature Geek) from drowning, realizes she’s his mate, and must protect her from his mostly-evil merman Dad.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I will submit it to agents and/or publishers of my genre.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I’m still writing it. Nanowrimo runs through 11/30. At that point, I’ll have at least 50,000 words down. I’m projecting THE END to happen around 70,000.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Entangled Publishing 2012 Nanowrimo Boot Camp Smack Down
The awesome editors at Entangled Publishing and their Nanowrimo Boot Camp. I’m participating in the Entangled Publishing 2012 Smack Down over on the Savvy Author’s Web site.

My merman is happy I finally sat down to put his story on virtual paper. ☺
