That magic makes Tris a Summoner, arbiter between the living and the dead.
Can a half-trained mage-prince and his unlikely allies take back his kingdom and avenge his family—or will his wild power destroy him before he has the chance to set things right?

In just one year under the Usurper’s thumb, Margolan has gone from prosperity to chaos and starvation. Jared’s troops hunt down any who oppose him, filling the gibbets and scaffolds and carrying out a reign of terror.
Tris has risked destruction to gain control of his spirit magic, and harness his power. But when he and his allies return to Margolan, Tris must confront Foor Arontala, Jared’s blood mage, and stop him from freeing the soul of the Obsidian King from its crystal prison. If Tris fails, Arontala will set the Obsidian King free and take on his power, becoming unstoppable and destroying the last chance to free Margolan from Jared’s rule.

… Fog poured inside like creeping vines, and with it came a slender woman.
Her willowy frame melted and solidified as she stalked toward the bed, her moon-white dress dancing around slender limbs. Waist-length platinum hair snaked around her head, tendrils reaching forward as if tasting the air, as if seeking out Morgan. Glittering red eyes set in a pale gamine face focused on her. The woman reminded Morgan of an evil Audrey Hepburn, the actress in all those classic old films she used to watch ages ago with her long-deceased and sorely missed Nana Shannon.
Evil Audrey hovered at the foot of the bed by Morgan’s feet, canting her head as if listening to Morgan’s thoughts. A wicked grin flashed and disappeared on the entity’s haunting, beautiful face. “Evil Audrey.”
Crap, the scary-as-snakes ghost thing could definitely read minds. The tightness in Morgan’s throat increased, and she struggled to catch a full breath. Fight-or-flight flooded her system, yet she remained paralyzed, which was bad, bad, bad, what with a spook in the room and the fact a panic-induced asthma attack was on the way.
Thanks for nothing, hallucination. God, she hoped this was a figment of her messed up mind. Or a dream. Whatever the case, not real.

I live in a cabin in the woods. Well, sort of. More like a 100-year-old farmhouse on land that’s been in my family more than four generations.
Like any old home, this place is riddled with stories and ghosts. At the far end of our property is a Native American burial ground. The Old San Antonio Road runs right behind our house, where hundreds of pioneers and legends like Davy Crockett and Sam Houston used to enter Texas before we were a country.
We haven’t always lived on our family land. For years after my great-grandmother passed, a family of renters abused and tore up the place. When we finally kicked them out of the rent house, they had left threats and curses written on the walls. Sounds like a Southern Gothic novel, but it’s all true every word.
My childhood was spent with my family rebuilding this place. In the early years, conditions were so bad we basically camped inside the torn up farmhouse. We kept a burn pile near the old rent house. When night came we would sit around the fire, beneath a sea of stars and tell stories about the old folks and the lives they lived.
One night, most everyone had gone to bed, save a few of us. The conversation fell to the crackling of the fire when from the abandoned rent house we heard a slow knock, knock, knock…
The few of us who were left outside stopped and looked at each other. We sort of laughed it off. Until the sound came again, from a different part of the house, knock, knock, knock…
My brother and one of his friends rose to investigate with a flashlight and a rifle (because this is East Texas.) I lingered behind while they entered the rent house. Almost the moment they entered the sound came again, louder, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.
The guys stuck their heads up the attic and they found nothing.
No animals, no drifter who had wandered in from the woods, looking for a place to sleep.
Nothing.
That’s only one story, but I can’t walk past that rent house without feeling like someone is watching me to this day.
There are places in the world like that, places that raise the hair at the back of your neck and send chills down your spine, places where bad people did bad things once, places best left alone.

Remember when you were having the best day ever and, in a flash, it turned to the worse one?
This is the complete six-book novella series of Dancing Vampires: Dance of the Vampires, Vampire Highland Fling, A Bonnie Vampire Dancer, Vampire Waltz, Valkyrie Vampire Sword Dancing, and Some Vampires Shimmy.
Remember when you were having the best day ever and, in a flash, it turned to the worse one?
Coming from the pub with your brothers, having a laugh, you see seven stunning women standing in the road. One starts dancing with you. Her sexy red fingernails turn to talons, and she shreds your back.
No? Maybe stuff like that just happens to me and my brothers… and a few other guys in the Scottish Highlands.
Ian’s right. I’m Sorcha, the one he danced with. My sisters and I are vampiric-fey. We were hunting men. But we only went after the McDuff brothers, a god, a bagpiper, an IT guy, and a steampunk musician. That’s it.
We decided to forget about drinking their blood and try loving them instead. But even with all the sizzling passion Ian and I and my sisters and their lovers have for each other… they’re obstacles to forbidden love.
Two big ones are:
The war goddess Morrigan. You do not want to make her mad.
And the Valkyries. Those you-know-what’s are bananas covered in nuts.
To find out if my sisters and I conquer them all and end up with the men we love, hit the Buy Now button above and come dance with the vampires.

“What?” Mordak asked. Me? Love a human? Of course not. “By the goddess, you’ve lost your minds. I just want this one’s blood for myself. Run along, get your own. We’ll meet at the portal before dawn.”
“See you back at the cairn.” Fuamnach tilted her chin in the air and vanished.
Aithbhreac disappeared as well.
Mordak shifted her eyes back to the mortal. His mere presence commanded attention. What would be wrong with having a tryst with him? Goddess Morrigan has affairs with humans all the time.
I thought they’d never leave. She fixed her gaze on the tall, striking man, and swinging her hips in a saucy fashion, she sauntered toward him. As she “drew near him, she batted her eyelashes and flashed a smile to draw him in. Dancing with him would be even more fun than usual.
A noisy, whoosh-like, shaking sound caught her attention. What now? She gasped with shock. This cannot be.
Three women descended from the ebony sky with the wings on their bronze helmets flapping like a bird’s.
What is happening? She hadn’t drunk any heather ale today.
“The vanilla-blond women landed smoothly on their feet, the wings stopped flapping and laid back on their helmets, now totally still. All three women glared at her with glacier blue eyes.
Her palms were damp with sweat, she felt shaky. The earthly realm was such a crazy place.
Why did she send her sisters away? She needed them now. Whoever or whatever these tall creatures in plate armor corselets, flimsy white skirts and fur-topped boots were, they weren’t smiling at her.
She noticed the human checking out the women from the rear and glancing at her as well. He had a huge grin on his face, as if his dreams had come true. Mordak, however, faced a nightmare.
The statuesque blonde in the center tilted her chin in the air. “The man is mine.”
“Yours?” Anger pulsated through Mordak’s body. “He’s not yours.”
People couldn’t just fly down from who knows where and claim the man she liked. Mordak schooled her face into composure and met the woman’s gaze. “Just who or what…are you?”
“Randgrid.” The tallest of the blondes didn’t break her stare, not even one blink. “I am a Valkyrie.”
With a thin, tight-lipped expression, she set her hand on her hip. “Be gone, baobhan sith.”
“Me. No, no…you’re the one in the wrong place.” Mordak shook her hand at the Valkyrie. “This is Scotland, not Denmark or Valhalla or wherever you think you are.”
“He’s a Gunn.” Randgrid jerked her head toward the man. “So, he is ours.”
“Of Clan Gunn?” She glared at the silly woman in the winged helmet. “The word clan is the whole point. He’s Scottish. He’s mine.”
Randgrid and her two sisters said together, “Gunn is the point. The descendant of a Viking hero is ours.”
You can never go wrong with a vampire costume for Halloween. It’s an all-time favorite. And the popular ones are always Draculaesque versions.
As writers and readers, let’s think about that for a moment. Bram Stoker died in April 1912, so, over a hundred years ago and his fictionalized character—Dracula—is still the most famous vampire in history. And there has been a lot of competition, especially in the 21st century—Wrath, Lestat, Bill Compton, Edward, the brothers: Stefan and Damon, as well as others.
So, why does this character, written over 100 years ago, still stand strong? He was villainous to the core, but we are still drawn to him. Why is that? What did Bram Stoker put into Dracula’s character work to make this monster tick? Did Bram put some of himself into Dracula? Do we see some of ourselves in the monster as well?
Let’s do a few comparisons between Bram and Drac.
Many Stoker biographers reported he died of syphilis. It’s easy to see the similarities between vampirism and a disease like syphilis and imagine the guilt and concern Bram was burdened with over possibly infecting his wife.
Bram Stoker married actress Florence Balcombe in 1878. She was previously engaged to Oscar Wilde. From all accounts, she and Bram shared a deep love for each other. We see those intense emotions written into Jonathan’s feelings for Mina.
Also, Bram Stoker tied his own Irish heritage into his character and the story. Since Dracula is Eastern European, you may not have noticed the author’s Celtic roots in the story, but I assure you they are there. Stoker actually wrote his first draft of Dracula while he was a guest at Slains. The Slain castle in Aberdeenshire Scotland, is often considered an inspiration for Dracula’s castle in the book.
On his mother’s side, Bram Stoker was a direct descendent of ’Manus O’Donnell (Manus ‘the Magnificent), the Irish clan chief, who led a rebellion against Henry VIII in the 16th century.
So, Dracula’s backstory of a man with a great past as a warrior and ruler, now displaced by the passage of history, living in the shadows, is also the backstory of Bram Stoker’s ancestry.
It has been said that as a little boy in Ireland, Bram Stoker’s mother often told him stories, including scary tales. They must have included Irish folk lore. There are many tales of dark vampiric fey in Celtic mythology. These dark fey are often extremely beautiful and seductive. The vampiric fey, the baobhan sith, always roamed together as sisters. In Dracula, Bram Stoker’s description of the three sisters in the vampire’s castle seems similar to dark Celtic fey.
Two were dark, and had high aquiline noses, like the Count, and great dark, piercing eyes that seemed to be almost red when contrasted with the pale yellow moon. The other was fair, as fair as can be, with great wavy masses of golden hair and eyes like pale sapphires. I seemed somehow to know her face, and to know it in connection with some dreamy fear, but I could not recollect at the moment how or where. All three had brilliant white teeth that shone like pearls against the ruby of their voluptuous lips. There was something about them that made me uneasy, some longing and, at the same time, some deadly fear. I felt in my heart a wicked, burning desire that they would kiss me with those red lips. It is not good to note this down, lest some day it should meet Mina’s eyes and cause her pain; but it is the truth. They whispered together, and then they all three laughed—such a silvery, musical laugh, but as hard as though the sound never could have come through the softness of human lips. It was like the intolerable, tingling sweetness of water-glasses when played on by a cunning hand. The fair girl shook her head coquettishly, and the other two urged her on. One said:“Go on! You are first, and we shall follow; yours is the right to begin.” The other added:“He is young and strong; there are kisses for us all.”
Because Bram Stoker pulled deep from within his own history and wrote emotion and human pain into his book, Dracula, we connect with the horrors he created. We can see bits of ourselves in the monster …and that is what makes Dracula the scariest of all.
Maybe this Halloween, I’ll go as a female version of Bram Stoker. I’ll have to get a fake beard and mustache and a short-straight-hair wig. The 1900s-style man’s suit and tie won’t be hard to find. No one will know who I’m supposed to be, but that might be the funnest part. I can take pictures with all the people dressed like vampires.
All the while, I’ll be quietly thinking, Bram, wherever your spirit is, I just want you to know your best written character is still alive and well. You did it. You achieved what all authors dream of. May he live on in our minds for centuries to come.
Have a fang-tastic Halloween everyone.

Genre: Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance
FROM POPULAR ROMANCE AUTHOR GEMMA SNOW
An All Hallows’ Harem story
They’ll be there to catch her. All she has to do is take the leap.
Driven by grief, nostalgia, and a desperate need to feel again after the loss of her husband, Charlotte follows a whim and an old playbill to a traveling faire in the Scottish countryside. The festival has a sort of ancient feel, much more authentic than any she’s visited before.
And that’s not the only thing that stands out to Charlotte.
They’re called the House of Damocles, and their acrobatic performance draws Charlotte to the men in a dark and visceral way.
At least, she thinks they’re men.
Dom. Elijah. Gabriel. Bell.
But if being in their presence actually makes Charlotte want to pick up her paintbrush again, she’s not one to look too closely at golden eyes and burning touches. And if it turns out they have a sort of unusual arrangement with the women they share, well that doesn’t scare her so much.
What does scare her is the way these men call to something ancient and demanding within her, the dark shadows and haunts that linger at the edges of their stories, and the ache she feels deep in her belly at the very thought of leaving them behind.
Charlotte’s been running for a long time. The men have been running for so much longer. Perhaps it is in slowing down and opening their hearts to one another that they all finally find the love and acceptance they’ve been searching for. They just need to survive ancient enemies, possible discovery, and their own wounded hearts first. Love is, after all, a leap of faith.

Hi Everyone!
In September, I introduced you to T. J. Baer and his new LGBTQ+ YA Urban Fantasy release, Guardians. I just finished reading it, and I highly recommend! Read on for my full review. Enjoy!
xo,
Celia
Urban fantasy fans, take note: Guardians, by T. J. Baer is an urban fantasy delight!
The story hooked me from the first sentence where we meet the brave and snarky teenager Alisha as she rescues her brother from a monster. Three paragraphs later, her banter with the creature, a giant centipede, by the way, had me laughing out loud. After she rescues her brother, we meet her family, and the believable, natural, and amusing dialogue continues while Alisha goes about her life as a Guardian. As urban fantasy plots go, the story is straightforward, clear, and entertaining. There’s magic, combat action galore, awkward teen moments, as well as super sweet moments between Alisha and her love-interest (and former nemesis) Bella. The pace is perfection, the setting vivid and well-drawn, and the supporting cast members are, across-the-board, unique and interesting. It was a treat to watch this dynamic group of heroes battle to protect their world from some interesting and spooky invaders. The story has a satisfying ending and left me wanting more of this world and these specific characters.
To sum up, T.J. Baer’s Guardians is a fast-paced, action-packed, snarky-sweet, YA adventure and a must-read for urban fantasy fans. This is the first book I’ve read by T. J. Baer, and I’ll be back for more.
I received a complimentary ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Chapter One
My brother Jake lay unconscious on the cave floor, his favorite denim jacket torn in three places and his cell phone a cracked mess of plastic on the ground. If we actually survived this, he was going to be pissed.
“All right, look,” I said, giving the giant snarling insect monster my serious face. “I know I don’t look like much, but you should know I am fully capable of kicking your big buggy butt straight back to where it came from, not only for hurting my brother, but for whatever unholy reign of terror you’ve got planned here.”
The monster was nine feet tall, jet-black, and scaly, with hundreds of spindly legs, like a centipede on steroids. Savage mandibles gleamed in the light from the cave mouth, and I tightened my grip on my sword hilt. And because times of stress often led me to incredible feats of word vomit, I kept talking.
“I mean, let’s face it: guys like you don’t generally show up in our world without some kind of nasty plan for world domination, so I think it’s pretty safe to say you’re up to no good. So are you gonna go peacefully, or do I have to start shoving my boot up random orifices until we find the one that hurts the most?”
The centipede monster reared back, its legs fanning out, its mandibles opening—
And then it tilted its scaly head to the side as if regarding me in puzzlement. “You speak great volumes but say very little,” it said in a thin, whistling voice.
Which, okay, was fair. I’d always had a tendency to babble, particularly when I was in imminent danger of being devoured by the Godzilla of centipedes. Generally, the centipede didn’t take the time to inform me of it though.
“I do not wish any harm upon you,” it continued, deviating even further from the Evil Monster Intent on Taking Over the Earth speech. “Nor any human. I came here only wishing to be left alone, but your companion—” It swung its head toward Jake. “—attempted to steal one of my children, at which point I was forced to defend them. I have not seriously harmed him, only caused him to lose consciousness to neutralize him as a threat.”
“He tried to steal one of your kids?” That didn’t sound like Jake.
The centipede-thing tilted its head toward the other end of the cave, where I could just make out the glittering of a number of round, pearly, head-sized spheres. Eggs? They looked like the kind of pretty, decorative objects people would pay a lot of money for, bringing them much more firmly into the realm of things Jake would totally try to steal.
I sighed and slid my sword into its sheath. The magic triggered the instant I did, and sword and sheath shrank to being a decorative golden clasp on my belt. “I apologize for my companion’s rash actions,” I said, bowing my head slightly like we were supposed to do in these situations. “If you’d allow me to remove him from here, I swear to you that he’ll never come near you or your children again.”
The centipede bowed its head too, its pincers snapping and clicking together in a way that I tried not to be too creeped out by. “That would be acceptable. I thank you, Guardian.”
I blinked. “How’d you know I’m a Guardian?”
“Well, for one thing, the sword.”
“Ah.”
“But even had you come unarmed, I would have known. You wear your status like a cloak. It seeps from every ounce of your being, every word and action. Though you look a frail female thing, there is power in you.”
“Frail female thing,” I said in a flat voice and decided not to be offended. If the worst thing a giant centipede monster had to throw at me was sexism, I could probably count myself lucky.
“Yeah, well, guess I’d better get Jake—err, my companion—out of your hair before he wakes up and starts trying to make off with your kids again.”
I started forward, hoping the centipede monster would move out of the way, but it stayed where it was, its black eyes glittering in the dimness.
“You have shown me respect and kindness, and so I shall do something for you in return. My species have a unique ability that appears only between laying our eggs and the birth of our children.”
“Oh, yeah? What kind of ability?”
“The ability to glimpse the future. It allows us to provide extra protection to our young when they are unable to protect themselves, for instance if a young human is attempting to steal one of them.”
“For instance,” I said dryly.
“Something lurks on the horizon, Guardian. An age of darkness and danger is coming to you and those like you.”
I frowned. “To the Guardians, you mean?”
“To all beings of your world.”
“What kind of danger?”
Its legs rippled, and it dropped down onto them and made its undulating way over to the row of eggs. Its last word hissed through the cave, seeming to echo louder and louder in my ears:
“Extinction.”
I suddenly felt very, very tired. “Again?”
