HAVEN, an Urban Fantasy Romance

Here’s a romantic snippet from HAVEN featuring Carina, a feisty San Francisco club owner, and her love-interest, undead musician Alexander.

Outside, the misty air cooled my lungs, the marble bench froze my ass, and the concrete under my bare feet chilled them bone deep. All cleared my head and eased the vertigo. “What time is it?”

Alexander draped his black leather coat over my shoulders. “Around four.”

He helped me snake my arms into the coat’s too-long-for-me sleeves, his hands pale like moonlight against the inky darkness of his coat. Such large, competent hands, the fingers long and strong. Piano player fingers. A silver band graced his left index, an onyx triquetra adorning the middle. He fished my hand from the sleeve. When our palms touched, power pulsed, warm and comforting.

My eyes strayed to the bracelets on his wrist. One thin strap of black leather and a chunky, metal bracelet of I-shaped links. I traced the metal with my free hand. “Silver?”

“Never.” He pointed at the rings. “White gold.” And the bracelet. “Titanium.”

“Oh.” My fingers continued their dance over his accessories. Love touching him.

Wind gusted around the clinic, whipping locks of hair across my face. He brushed them away, tucking some behind my ear. I pressed my cheek against his palm and closed my eyes to savor the moment. “Feeling better?”

I blinked and gave him a wry grin. “A lot better since you interrupted my undead uncles getting me drunk on brandy.”

His lips quirked, fangs flashing.

My insides quivered. “Yeah, much better.” My fingertips stroked his handsome face.

His skin showed no signs of the wounds he’d received during the earlier fight. Impressive. He leaned into my touch. My eyes zeroed in on his oh-so kissable lips. He moved closer, closer still, pausing a hair’s breadth away. My pulse skyrocketed. My stomach performed endless somersaults while bits lower clenched in anticipation. Do it. Do it now.

Alexander let out a breath and kissed me.

Diamond Moon by Celia Breslin book cover

About Diamond Moon

Ross returns to Los Lobos to build homes for the homeless. He never expected to find his one true mate. Then Darci lands at his doorstep. Discovering her shifts are life-threatening, he’ll do anything to help her—if she’ll only trust him with her heart.

Diamond Moon, First Kiss Excerpt

…he peppered her skin with slow, gentle kisses. He needed to take this slow. Mustn’t scare his mate.

When she reached out and stroked his hair, she made him the happiest man in all of Los Lobos.

Her breath left her in a sexy rush. “It’s as silky as it looks.” She bit her lip, her brow furrowing as if she hadn’t meant to say those words out loud.

He smiled. “Play away, Moonbeam.”

A shudder rolled through her. Her nipples pearled to tight buds visible through her shirt. No bra. His control broke. To hell with this.
He burst to his feet. “Don’t move, Moonbeam.”

He strode around the table. She watched him come, hands clutched against her breasts, eyes wide, cheeks flushed a pretty pink.

He shifted her chair so she faced him then knelt before her. His gaze met hers at this level, an intimacy he fucking loved. He gripped her wrists and moved her unresisting hands to rest on his shoulders.

Her fingers curled, nails scraping his skin through his T-shirt, sending jolts of lust to his groin. “Why do you call me that?”

He gripped her knees and inched them apart, pleased when she didn’t object. She felt it, too, he was sure of it, the need for closeness created by the call of their Wolf-mate bond. “Call you what?”

She slid her hands to his biceps. “Moonbeam.”

He pressed in close, closer. “Your skin. Pale as moonlight.” He glided his hands along her outer thighs, over her hips, to circle her waist.

“Oh.” She let out a delightful shudder and stared at him, her parted lips tempting him closer.

A growl escaped his throat. He closed the distance and kissed her.

Interview & Spotlight: ECHO MINE by Georgia Lyn Hunter

Hi Everyone!

My critique partner, author Georgia Lyn Hunter, is here again today for part two of her interview and more goodness from her Fallen Guardians series. This time, she brought along an excerpt from Echo Mine. BTW, it’s currently *FREE* on Smashwords, so check it out! Enjoy! 🙂

author photo

Hi Georgia Lyn, thanks for being on the blog two days in a row! So fun to have you here! Please tell my readers a bit about yourself.

I’ve been creating stories from the moment I could string two words together. No matter the tale, it always has romance woven through them. Yes, I’m a hopeless romantic. When I’m not writing or plotting new books, I like to read, travel, paint, or troll flea markets where I usually buy things I might never actually use because they’re so pretty—who can resist those displays.

I come from the beautiful country of South Africa, and currently live in the Middle East. After working in a few jobs (all art related), a chosen career as a fashion designer, then an art teacher, I finally found my passion nearly five years ago: writing. There really is no other job I’d rather do.

What do you do when your muse decides to play hide?
Read or start work on something different–why I always beat Dammit (that’s my muse’s name) by working on two projects.

How long did it take you do write first draft of Echo, Mine and then completion of said manuscript?
I wrote the rough draft in one night (four hours-LOL–I amazed myself with that one ) and completion of manuscript was two weeks. I really enjoyed going back to my favorite couple from Absolute Surrender.

What inspired you to write Echo, Mine?
It was more a spur of the moment decision. I wondered what came after Absolute Surrender ended, after the happily ever after. So one night I just wrote for myself at first. In one night I wrote the draft and was so excited at what was revealed, I expanded it into a novella.

When a story doesn’t work out quite the way you wanted, do you trash it after it’s written, or set it aside for a look later?
Oh, I never trash anything. I set it aside, then come back after a few weeks and brutally cut off what had me stopping in the first place. (I still keep a saved copy of the original.)

As a writer, do you often spend as much time researching a book as writing it. Do you explore Google and YouTube sites or visit specific locations?
All of the time. I must get a feel for the place and facts, before I write any story.

And what are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m writing the draft of my 3rd book from my Fallen Guardian series.

Thanks for visiting again today! Now, tell us a little about Echo Mine…

Breaking Fate by Georgia Lyn Hunter

Title: Echo Mine (#1.5)
Author: Georgia Lyn Hunter
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Fallen Guardians

After a horrifying incident that left her in a coma for several long months, Echo now has to get used to a different life. As a descendant of a powerful angel, her days waver between training as the new Healer and convincing her mate she’s strong enough to match him in life and in bed.

A surprise date night gives her the perfect opportunity to do both. But plans have a way of coming unraveled. One disaster leads to another, and Echo accepts that nothing in their lives will ever be normal.

But the biggest revelation of the night comes after she kills a dangerous, soul-sucking demon. Sparks fly between her and her mate, proving that normal is most definitely overrated.

EXCERPT

EXCERPT: PG:

She rested her arms on the white, damask-covered table. “I’m so glad you could take a night off.”

Aethan leaned back in his chair, his brow creasing. “We’ve always had that option, we just didn’t utilize it.” His gaze held hers. Warm. Soft. “There was no need to before.”

Understanding struck. “Until me.”

“Until you.”

She smiled. “Then I’m glad you’ve taken it. I like this. You, me, here.”

He covered her hand on the table. “We both needed this. At the castle, you’re always busy, training with Hedori, lessons with that idiot Lore—”

“Lore’s not so bad, Aethan. Just don’t react to his taunting. You know those angels will take their enjoyment anyway they can. As for the training, it’s important to me, but you could always change your mind and teach me yourself, you know.”

“I don’t think I’d be a good trainer for you. Besides…” His gaze skimmed over her face, a sensual glint in his eyes. “Every time I have you under me, on the floor, I get distracted.”

She swallowed. While that may have been true once, Aethan no longer made love to her on the spur of the moment, except in bed. She appreciated his care and consideration, but dammit, she was tired of the gentleness. She wanted the man who had a voracious, no-holds-barred appetite when it came to sex—she wanted the downpour—the thunderstorm. She wanted all that back.

Her gaze lingered on the untouched strawberries…she wasn’t hungry, but she’d use whatever weapons she had. Before tonight was over, Aethan would have no idea what hit him. That iron will of his would be nothing but a puddle of raw desire.

“Fine,” she said, taking a sip of her drink before he cottoned onto her plan and armed up. “I guess Hedori will have to do. But I’m giving you fair warning, Aethan. I’m going to ask one of the others to spar with me, too. I need to learn to fight with different opponents. Týr is vicious. I like his style.” Setting her glass down, she hid a smile as Aethan narrowed his eyes. “And Blaéz, he’s real brutal, fights like a street fighter—truly amazing. As for Dagan…” She frowned then shrugged. “I haven’t really seen him fight. Guess I’ll find out soon enough.”

“They won’t fight you.”

“Why not? Ugh, Aethan, you didn’t?” She gave him a disgusted look. “Did you warn them off?”

A faint smile touched his mouth. “No. I haven’t. But they won’t.”

Dammit, they were all alike.

Interview & Spotlight: Georgia Lyn Hunter’s Breaking Fate

Hi Everyone!

My critique partner, author Georgia Lyn Hunter, is here today for an interview. She brought along an excerpt from her recent release, Breaking Fate. Let me tell you, her alpha hero Blaez is utter Awesome Sauce. Enjoy! 🙂

author photo

Hi Georgia Lyn, tell my readers a bit about yourself.

I’ve been creating stories from the moment I could string two words together. No matter the tale, it always has romance woven through them. Yes, I’m a hopeless romantic. When I’m not writing or plotting new books, I like to read, travel, paint, or troll flea markets where I usually buy things I might never actually use because they’re so pretty. After working in a few jobs (all art related), a chosen career as a fashion designer, then an art teacher, I finally found my passion nearly five years ago: writing. There really is no other job I’d rather do. Oh, and I live in the beautiful country of South Africa.

Give us one fact about yourself.
I like solitude. In a crowd, I tend to miss conversation because my mind drifts, I don’t know what to do with people. 🙂

Is that what inspired you to start writing?
What? Living the life of a hermit? No. I love reading, and wanted to give my five cents worth on how to fail spectacularly by not finishing a manuscript. I’m kidding. The paranormal. Love everything about it, especially angels, gods and demons. I always wanted to write a story about them, my way.

Do you apply your life experience to your books?
Ah… I think not, but it does creep in anyway.

Will you ever branch out into different genre?
Right now I’m writing my first contemporary romance. Love it! 🙂

Thanks for sharing with us, today! Now, tell us a little about your latest release…

A Guardian sworn to protect mortals from supernatural evil, Blaéz straddles the edge of darkness as his needs grow. When a good deed brings him to the doorstep of a female unlike any other, one whose touch ignites emotions long lost in the hellish pits of Tartarus, he’s determined not to lose her. EXCERPT

(PG) Excerpt:
A scene between Michael, the Guardian’s leader, and Blaéz after he’d deliberately missed a meeting. (He went after the heroine)

Michael strode inside, circled the heavy equipment, and sat across from Blaéz on a workout bench. The old tee he wore looked like the moths had had a great time feasting on it. It didn’t surprise Blaéz that the archangel was still here when he rarely stayed at the castle. It was expected after Blaéz had missed the “chat” last night.

Well, he’d been busy…stalking. He couldn’t make the meet.

Michael’s eerie blue eyes settled on him. They appeared like shattered sapphires, as if he’d lived through a brutal torture. The jagged pieces never quite fit anymore, allowing a strange silvery glow through.

“What’s going on?”

Time for his grilling. With no way to escape this one-on-one with the snarly male, Blaéz said, “You know what I am. Why the questions now?”

Michael picked up a three hundred pound weight and began his arm curls. “For centuries, every few months you disappear for days at a time. I gave you space, understood you needed it. But that time in Tartarus has long passed. You’re losing all your cognitive skills, ones that make you a Guardian. Sure, you do the job, but there’s a lack of care now.”

Blaéz heard the unasked question. Maybe he should have felt guilty that he cared so little about his own health, his life. After all, Michael had given up more than his status as the leader of the archangels, lost something irreplaceable to free him–free all of them from that hellish hole. And he’d chosen to stay on as their leader. Why anyone would want to take charge of moody, temperamental fallen ex-gods, Blaéz had no idea.

Still, he could never reveal the reality of what he’d done…still did, or where he disappeared to every few months. Days he could never speak off. The truth would crush the warriors.

He functioned on autopilot in his role as a Guardian. Nothing more than an automaton. It’s why meeting Darci, and the emotions that had unfurled so briefly, yanked him by the balls.

“You’re becoming self-destructive,” Michael snapped.

He was way past self-destructive.

He reeked of Hell.

Couldn’t the Arc smell it on him?

Blaéz brushed the sweat from his brow and pounded harder on the fast moving belt. A slow burn started in his thigh muscles, followed by a trickle of pain. “It’s been three and a half millennia, you think I’m a loose cannon, then take me out.”

AllRomance | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Champagne

EXCERPT

“I don’t think you want to be doing that.”

The tall, gangly, greasy haired vampire jerked and spun around to face Trinity. His teeth were primed for the kill, his yellow eyes glaring at Trinity as if she were his next meal. The poor girl in his arms was wailing something awful.

Now you regret going through the dark alley.

“Yeah, says who?”

Trinity lifted a brow, cocked her body to one side and rested her hand on her hip. “Jesus, could you have said anything more lame? Let the girl go and no one has to get hurt.” Okay, so that wasn’t completely the truth. He would be more than hurt when this was over.

He would be dust.

“How ‘bout I keep her and you wait against the wall until I’m done?” He jerked the girl towards him, yanking her head back to expose her neck. He was just about to bite down when Trinity placed a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and his face froze.

“How ‘bout I don’t.” Trinity bared her fanged teeth to show him she was not going to back off. “Beat it kid.” She clamped her hand on the vampires shoulder, her nails digging into his flesh as she jerked her head at the girl. As she’d suspected, the guy was a wimp.

He released the girl who immediately ran off screaming.

“Now, you wanna take off, or am I going to have to mess up that pretty face of yours?” she asked sarcastically as she glared down at him.

“You couldn’t handle me, bitch.” He slapped her hand free, then curling his fingers in a fist, threw a punch at her face.

She was ready and ducked out of the way. Slicing her hand up, she chopped him in the neck, sending him crumbling on the ground. “You don’t want to mess with me, jerk,” she advised as she planted a booted foot on his jugular. The razor blades she had attached to the toe drew a small amount of dull gray, deoxygenated blood as she pressed it just below his chin.

“Go ahead and dust him, he’s useless.”

Trinity glared over her shoulder at the man she had once been destined for and felt her heart ache. She couldn’t stop herself from admiring the beauty of the man before her. His long dark hair floated in the light breeze sweeping away from a face sculpted of fine bone and delicate skin. He looked so dark and dangerous in that long, black leather coat he always wore. One look into his translucent blue eyes turned her heart to mush.

Then she reminded herself how much she detested him…

EXCERPT

The way he said her name, sweet as a caress, shivered in ribbons down her spine, but her chest constricted. If he knew her name, what else did he know?

“You want to kill me.” A statement, not a question. A test, a dare.

Lydon’s head tilted to the side, lips curved into a sly, I-know-your-secret smile.

Her second vision, the heated, disturbing one, flared to life. How soft and sinful those lips had felt on her skin, drifting over the curve of her neck.

“Naughty dreams.” His voice lowered to a husky tone, another velvet echo of the dream.

EXCERPT

Oy. No more weekday frat parties for me, no matter how
noble the cause, especially when I have a test the next day. What was
I thinking? And last minute cramming with a headache was not a
good idea either. Forget it. My eyes drifted to the clock.

And now I was late. Damn it. With a sigh, I threw down my
pencil and scrambled up, my head throbbing. I traded my Eeyore
jammies for skinny jeans and a fitted white t-shirt. Shoes, where
were my shoes? Gah. I ducked and rooted around in the deep, dark
spaces under my bed. Hmm, the green dress I borrowed from Sarah.
Mental note: I need to return that. English book, various dust
bunnies of uncertain lineage…there.

Sketchers on, I grabbed my backpack, turned up my iPod,
and ran out the door. No time to primp.

Good thing the campus I lived on was small. There was a big
central courtyard—the quad—filled with towering oak trees and
wide-open spaces surrounded by squat school buildings and
classrooms. If I hurried, I’d make it…

I raced into the quad out of breath and slowed, turning in a
complete circle.

Huh.

No one around. Unease skittered through me on soft paws.
The courtyard was always busy. I pulled my headphones out of my
ears. Was there some sort of event I didn’t know about going on?
The unnatural silence pressed in on me for a second as the
echoes of my steps faded.

Then screams—men’s and women’s—poured from Main
Street. I broke into a run and shot between the buildings toward the
sound.

Cars littered the intersection. Some guy rear-ended someone
else, causing a chain reaction down the road. A horn blared nearby
and a faint breeze blew the smell of gasoline, smoke, and copper my
way. Clusters of people stood among the wreckage.

EXCERPT

“Are you a fugitive from the law?”

He bared a perfect set of pearly white teeth any mother would be proud of and chuckled. “No. And I’ve never been arrested, either. You can relax.”

“So,” she pressed on, breathing easier once again. “You have a thing against the medical profession?”

He turned his face toward her, and she could now confirm his eyes, one rich amber with golden flecks, the other the deepest blue, were as beguiling as she’d figured. “You could say I’m a fast healer. I’ll be fine in a couple of days…Willow.”

When he spoke her name, it was as though he’d spread a coat of silky chocolate over her entire body and licked every ounce of it off with his tongue. Her palms tingled, her face flushed, and she shifted in her seat to ease the growing ache down low.

“Fast is one thing, but you’d need to be supernatural to bounce back from these wounds in a couple of days. Insert foot in mouth, Will.” She groaned and dropped her head into her hands.

“What do you mean?” His voice returned to a shaky whisper, but she heard him just fine.

She shrugged off her embarrassment and peered up at him. Enough dancing around the issue. She needed answers now that he was conscious and looking all delicious despite his injuries. So, she ignored his question and asked the first of many of her own. “Who are you?”

“My name is Greyson. Thanks for fixing me up. I’m sure you did an awesome job.”

“You’re welcome. I’m no doctor, but I make a damn good triage nurse in the wilderness when I need to. Back to you, Greyson. What the hell are you? And what actually happened out there? I can only guess, but I want the whole story. From the beginning. I don’t think it’s too much to ask…considering.”

“What if it is?”

“What if it is what?”

“Too much to ask.”
