Kidnapped By A Robot Car + Vampires, Oh My!

Hi Blog Friends!

I hope you enjoyed the excerpt I shared earlier in the month from Raz and Maya’s Friends to Lovers story in the Cupid Dating Agency series. As we near my favorite month of the year (Halloween, wahoo!), I’m kicking it off a few days early with a vampire short story freebie and an eerie tale of kidnapping by robot car…

I had a medical appointment downtown this month near Union Square. Afterward, I ordered a self-driving taxi pick-up, wandered to the square, politely declined multiple offers from the Hop-On-Hop-Off tour bus people, then jumped in my robot car when it pulled up to the curb.

“Welcome, Celia,” the car purred in its velvet voice, before locking the doors and easing into traffic around the square.

“Hi, Robot Car,” I replied then settled in for what is usually a relaxing experience in these comfy Jaguars. Self-driving taxis have been around for a while now in San Francisco, and I fully expected to enjoy the 20-ish minute drive to my neighborhood.

30 minutes later…

After circling the square for absolutely no reason, the robot car then made a mysterious and very lengthy detour in the *opposite direction* of my neighborhood, onto one of the worst roads to drive on downtown during a work day.

Cue the wall-to-wall traffic, construction zones gridlock, and multiple drivers abandoning all rules of the road to escape the nightmare, all while my robot car toggled between dodging obstacles (both human and machine) and freezing while it tried to process what to do next…

One Hour Later…

Finally made it home, a bit frazzled from being trapped in a car essentially driving the wrong way for 90% of the journey. Despite the adventure, I still take the robot cars and recommend you check them out if you visit San Francisco. It’s usually a fun experience, with no robot kidnapping involved. 🤣

I received the rights back to my vampire series this year, and I’m in the process of reworking the series. This means my vampires will receive a makeover both inside (updated/revised stories) and out (new covers)! I can’t wait to share it with you! In the meantime, you can download a complimentary short-story prequel to see one of Rina’s overprotective vampire relatives in action. (note: Rated R for vampire violence). This story, too, has a shiny new cover.
